Gerald (Jerry) Eugene Winters. 83, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away December 2, 2022, at Stillwater Hospice of Fort Wayne. Jerry was born in Centerville, Indiana, to Ralph Eugene and Martha Winters.
Jerry graduated from Centerville High School in 1957. After graduation, he farmed before enlisting in the Marine Corps, and proudly servied his country for four years. Following his military service, Jerry began a forty-year career selling agricultural fertilizer equipment that allowed him to travel the country doing what he loved. He was truly a "people person" and never met a stranger. He always had a smile and a joke to share.
Jerry served as a Deacon and usher at First Presbyterian Church. He spent many weekends on the golf course and played pool at the Olive Club where he was a member for over 30 years. Jerry was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his family playing games (that he would somehow always win) and making his special treats. He loved baking his special Wheaties Drop cookies, a family recipe, to share with family and friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Winters of Fort Wayne, IN; daughters, Deanna (Tony) Casiano of Fort Wayne, IN, Melissa (Ted) Engquist of Gloucester, VA; son, Kirk (Abby) Winters of Fishers, IN; brother, Keith (Jean) Winters; sister, Nancy Purcell, both of Inverness, FL; grandchildren, Callie (Johnny) Burt, Mikayla Engquist, both of Gloucester, VA, Isaac and Everett Winters of Fishers, IN; and a great-granddaughter, Deborah Burt. Gerald was preceded in death by his sisters, Sheila Shultz, Julia Nuss, and Karen Winters.
A memorial service to honor Jerry's life and legacy will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 West Wayne Street, Fort Wayne. He will be laid to rest at a future date at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne. Arrangements by D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
