Gregory M. Lewis

Greg graduated from North Side High School in 1969. He attended and played basketball for the University of Saint Francis before joining the Allen County Sheriff’s Department in 1971. In 1976, Greg left the Sheriff’s Department to serve on the Fort Wayne Police Department. He served on the Fort Wayne Police Department for 25 years in multiple divisions/units, including Deputy Chief of uniform division. He retired from the Fort Wayne Police Department as a Sergeant Detective in 2002. He then worked as director of security for Commercial Warehouse & Cartage, Inc. in Fort Wayne before becoming the executive director of Fort Wayne Crime Stoppers for 18 years. He retired from that position in August of 2020. Greg also did part-time security guard jobs for Fort Wayne Community Schools and many other local businesses through-out his career.

Greg is survived by his partner, Tammy Stelzer; his son, Graham (Rachel); his daughter, Sarah (Logan); his brothers, Rick, David, and Spencer; his five grandchildren, Alessia, Pierce, Delilah, Beau, and Josephine; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and his beloved 5-yr old German Shepard dogs, Gabriel and Elijah. He is preceded in death by his brother, Kevin; and his parents, Richard and Norma.

Throughout his life, Greg enjoyed playing sports, running, studying history, writing newspaper editorials, watching sports & movies, visiting with his family and grandchildren, and staying in touch with his life-long closest friends. Over the last 25-years, he loved spending time with Tammy as they raised purebred St. Bernard and German Shepard dogs together.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, March 19, 2021 at C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home (1327 North Wells Street, Fort Wayne), with visitation from 10:00am to 1:30pm, prior to the service. Burial will follow immediately at Concordia Cemetery Gardens on Lake Avenue.
