Guy Eldon Bookout, 89, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on September 12, 2026. Born in Fort Wayne on May 9, 1937, Guy was the son of the late Arthur and Juanita (Weaver) Bookout. A proud resident of Allen County, he carried a deep-rooted sense of place and steadfast devotion to the community he called home throughout his life.
Guy spent more than 50 years in the building trades, a working life defined by skill, perseverance, and the quiet satisfaction of a job done well. Primarily, he owned and operated his own business, Bookout Masonry—work that reflected both his craftsmanship and his enduring commitment to providing with his hands and his heart.
On November 30, 1957, Guy married Carole Bucher, who preceded him in death on October 18, 2019. Together they built a family life grounded in loyalty and steady love. Guy found his greatest joy in time spent with family, especially with his grandsons, and those closest to him will remember the way his presence could fill a room—often with laughter—through an ornery spirit and a well-timed joke.
Beyond his work, Guy’s days were happily shaped by the things he enjoyed most: hunting, playing cards, puzzles, following IndyCar and NASCAR, and always keeping busy with a project—building, fixing, and creating with the practiced confidence of a true craftsman.
Guy is survived by his daughter, Suzanne (Michael) Butz; grandsons, Andrew Butz and Nicholas (Casey) Butz; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Rose Butz; sister, Janet Meyers; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carole; siblings Mary (Ed) Fultz, Phyllis (Jon) Jontz, Nancy (Dean) Hunter, and half-sibling Daniel Fultz; and step-siblings, Ed, Virginia, Helen, Betty, Dorothy, Nancy, and David.
