

Halden Eugene Krauter, 103, passed away March 9, 2025, at Georgetowne Place Assisted Living where he has lived for about 12 years. Hal was born on the family farm near the Allen/Wells County line to Homer F. and Verna (Woods) Krauter on February 19, 1922. He was the third child with an older brother, Donald and sister, Maxine and younger sister, Helen.
He attended Ossian High School. He retired from Magnavox Government and Industrial Electronics, with 42 years of service, with credit for time in the Army during WWII. He served 3 years and 2 months, including overseas in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He wears 1 silver star, five battle stars, good conduct ribbon, American Defense ribbon, ETO ribbon, pre-Pearl Harbor ribbon, Oak leaf cluster, Presidential Unit Citation and Arrowhead for the invasion of Normandy.
After the war, he returned to the farm. He married his first wife, Wanda Mae Stoneburner. They had two daughters, Beckie and Bonnie. Later he married his second wife, Luella Maxine (Synesall) Miller, she brought two sons to the marriage, Lyle and Ron.
Hal is survived by his two daughters, Beckie (Krauter) Longyear, Bonnie (Krauter) Kimmell and stepdaughter-in-law, Carolyn (Dunn) Miller. He is also survived by, grandchildren, Leslie (John) (Longyear) Wechter, Stacey (Longyear) DeLong, Laura (Laramy) (Longyear) Freed, Ryan (Jessica) Longyear, Amanda (Bret) (Kimmell) Warner; step-grandchildren, Kris (Barbara) Miller, Kelli (Rodney)(Miller) Barr, Cindy (Dan) (Miller) Staples-Hopper; 28 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings; wife; 2 stepsons; a step-grandson, Brian Miller; step-granddaughter, Lori (Miller) Curry; son-in-law, Roger Longyear; and stepdaughter-in-law, Mary Miller.
Funeral Service will be 1:30 pm Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Funeral Homes - Maplewood Park, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation from 12:00 pm – 1:30 pm. Committal and Burial at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery on East State Street Fort Wayne, IN.
