Hannah “Susie” Karshner, 78, was born January 14, 1948, in Crawfordsville, Indiana, to Kenneth and Donna (Nichols) Karshner. Susie went to her heavenly home with Bob by her side on June 20, 2026, in The Villages, Florida. Throughout her life, Susie was deeply beloved—known for a kind heart, a devoted spirit, and a compassionate steadiness that shaped the lives of those who had the privilege to know her.
Susie graduated from Gerstmeyer Technical High School in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1966. With a strong work ethic and a quiet dedication to caring for others, she built her career as a dental assistant, serving patients in both Terre Haute and Fort Wayne. Her days reflected a consistent willingness to help, and a respect for the people around her that was always felt.
On March 4, 1967, she married the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Karshner, and together they were blessed with 59 loving years of marriage. Susie’s devotion to her family was the enduring center of her life—expressed in the countless ways she showed up, supported, and encouraged her children and grandchildren.
Along with her devoted husband, Bob, Susie is survived by her beloved children and their families: son Troy (Kari) Karshner of Olive Branch, MS; granddaughters Morgan Karshner of Panama City Beach, FL; and Lauren Karshner of Fort Wayne, IN; and son Trent (Michele) Karshner of Fort Wayne, IN; granddaughters Tori Bowles of Indianapolis, IN and Lyla Karshner of Fort Wayne, IN; and grandsons Trent Bowles and Will Karshner also of Fort Wayne, IN. She is also survived by her brother, Ken Karshner of Cedar Rapids, IA; and sisters Barb (John) Maynard of The Villages, FL; and Jean (Russ) Smith of Colbart WA; along with nieces and nephews, Leslie (Rick) Erwin of Dayton, OH; Kerry (Joe) Vande Kieft of Des Moines, IA; Dr. Justin (Dr. Alana) Smith of Hubert, NC; and Dr. Ian (Katie) Smith of Los Angeles, CA.
Susie gave generously of her time, volunteering for many events through Southwest Allen County Schools. She especially enjoyed helping with Homestead Dance Marathons and other sporting events at Homestead High School. Yet the moments she treasured most were spent supporting her boys—faithfully attending their games from PAL Football and Little League through their college activities. In later years, her attention and joy turned to her grandchildren, as she followed and celebrated their extracurricular activities, including cheer, dance, volleyball, basketball, baseball, and football.
In Fort Wayne, Susie attended Aldersgate Methodist and Peace Church, where her faith and community life were part of the foundation she built for her family and those around her. Her life will be remembered with deep gratitude, and her absence will be felt by many who were strengthened by her kindness, devotion, and love.
