Harold K "Smiley" Gruver, 83, of Yoder, Indiana passed away peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2025 at his home surrounded by family after a brief illness. He was born in Cannelton, Indiana on October 29, 1941, a son of the late Harold and Kathryn (Young) Gruver. Harold served in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1965. He was an educator for Fort Wayne Community Schools from 1970 to 1997 and a member of Nine Mile United Methodist Church since 1988. Harold enjoyed gardening, writing poetry, watching sports, and listening to country music. He enjoyed the simple things in life and always had a smile on his face. He is survived by his wife, Sue Gruver; children, John Gruver, Zachary Gruver, and Laura (Jeffrey) Bourquin; grandchildren, Andrew and Gabrielle "Gabby" Bourquin; brother, Gary Gruver; cousin, Guane Bubenzer; and his precious dog, Coco. Harold was also preceded in passing by his faithful dog, Cooper. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, September 14, 2025 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals 6810 Old Trail Road Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809, with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nine Mile United Methodist Church.
