Heather Janel (Harris) Frazier went home on September 19, 2024. Born December 30, 1972 in Terre Haute, Indiana, Heather attended Terre Haute North High School, graduating in 1991. She then attended Indiana State University where she joined Alpha Omicron Pi and graduated with her Associates in Nursing in 1994. ISU would also begin the 32-year love story with her one and only and future husband, Brian. Brian and Heather were married on September 21, 1996, and relocated to Fort Wayne in 1998. Heather then began her career at Lutheran Hospital in the Intensive Care Cardiac Unit as a Registered Nurse for the next 17 years. She always went above and beyond for her patients, listening to their needs, digging for answers, taking time to educate families, and being a true patient advocate. She was honored for her excellence winning the Daisy Award for Extraordinary Nurses in July of 2022. In 2012, leading with her servant heart, Heather made the decision to serve her country and joined the Air National Guard as a Critical Care Nurse where she achieved the rank of Major. She also went back to school for her Masters to become a Nurse Practitioner and completed that degree in 2016. Soon after, she began serving her fellow veterans at the VA Hospital working in primary care. Heather would say her greatest accomplishment of all, the achievement she took most pride in, was raising her two wonderful boys, Weston and Cole, into great men. She truly loved being a mom, and treasured each moment spent with them. Their smiles lit up her world and she loved knowing they will make this world a better place. When Heather wasn’t busy saving lives, serving her country, or raising her awesome boys, she could be found with Brian, friends and family at a marching band performance, a soccer game, on her boat in Butter Bay, on a beach in Hawaii or St. Maarten, riding a bike in Mackinac, relaxing in her hot tub enjoying a fresh IPA, or reading a book, preferably while petting a dog. She loved all things Halloween, decorating every nook and cranny, even creating a haunted house for her nieces and nephews while in treatment – again always thinking of others. Heather would love to be remembered by this quote – “People speak of hope as if it is this delicate, ephemeral thing made of whispers and spider’s webs. It’s not. Hope has dirt on her face, blood on her knuckles, the grit of the cobblestones in her hair, and just spat out a tooth as she rises for another go.” Heather is survived by her adoring husband and partner in crime, Brian; her two cherished and beloved sons, Weston and Cole; her parents, Bill and Linda Harris; sisters, Jenny (Kent) Yocom and Kristin (Jared) Wright; nieces, Alyssa (Kyle) Jackson and Samantha and Josephine Wright; nephews, Tyler Yocom and Jackson Wright; and a group of great friends too numerous to name. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service celebrating Heather’s life will be held on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Sonrise Church, 10125 Illinois Road at 1:30 pm. Burial will immediately follow at Lindenwood Cemetery, 2324 West Main Street, Fort Wayne.
