Helen (Doherty) Matera, 95, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 14, 2026.
She was born and raised in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Helen was one of nine children in a proud Irish family. Those early years and her Irish heritage remained an important part of her life and identity. Family was always at the center of what mattered most to her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Matera, with whom she shared 57 years of marriage, and her daughter, Pam.
Helen is survived by her children, Jack, Maureen, Diann (Jim) Solloway, and Tom; and by her grandchildren, Jill Solloway and Michael and John Felheim.
She now rests in peace and is reunited with her husband John, no doubt dancing together again.
Mass of Christion Burial will be held on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at 11:00 am at St. Therese Catholic Church, 2304 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819, with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Visitation will also be on Friday, March 27, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46819. Burial will be at Catholic Cemetery.
