Hobart “Charlie” Gilbert, 81, of Fort Wayne, passed away, Saturday, January 12, 2013. He was born on November 24, 1931 in Indianapolis to the late John and Carrie (Jones) Gilbert. He worked as a general foreman for Amtrak in the Beech Grove Shop until his retirement in 1991. He was a brown belt in karate, a member of Masonic Lodge-Beech Grove, Indiana, and Avalon Missionary Church. He enjoyed fishing, auctions, garage sales, riding his bikes, and especially his pets. Surviving family include his daughter, Barbara M. (Roger) Miller of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Ryan, Sara, and Drew (Kacy) Miller. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Lois (Jarvis) Gilbert. A funeral service will be 10:30 am on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Avalon Missionary Church, 1500 Lower Huntington Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 5-8 pm on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Poe Williamsport Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Allendale Christian Camp and Retreat, 4605 South Allendale Drive, Trafalgar, Indiana 46181.
