

Ike Hullinger, 75, of Fort Wayne, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, September 15, 2024, at Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. He was born August 14, 1949, in Kokomo to Jim and Mary Matt Hullinger. Ike graduated from the Indiana School for the Blind in 1967. After graduation he moved to Fort Wayne and worked at St. Joseph Hospital for 33 years, walking, riding his bike or catching the city bus for his three-mile journey to work with a near perfect attendance record. He married Margaret “Peg” Holly on March 4, 1972, she passed away in 1997. He enjoyed music, playing drums in the school combo band. After school he continued playing drums and singing all genres of music, most particularly country and rock and later played in nursing homes. He played with several different musicians over the years and was part of a backup band for Crystal Gayle in her early years. He was an avid trivia buff joining friends in regular conference calls on Sunday evenings. He enjoyed drag racing and oval racing and proudly accepted his dad’s Warsaw Speedway Hall of Fame honor in 2020. He made a few trips to Nashville touring various museums, Opryland, the Ryman and of course a few Honky Tonks. He supported the Allen County League for the Blind and his ISB alumni friend get togethers. He enjoyed following the activities of his nieces and nephews and high school and college sports. Ike is survived by his sister, Janet (Bill) Frank; brother, Jay (Deb) Hullinger; and several nieces and nephews on both the Hullinger and Holly side of his family. He was preceded in death by his wife Peg; parents; brothers, Mike and Jerry; and friend, Jan Rouch. Visitation for Ike will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, September 22 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation, 2114 South Calhoun Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802. Private family burial to be held at 11:00 am on Monday, September 23, 2024 at the Galveston Cemetery in Indiana.
