An active Realtor® for over 70 years, Jake rehabbed 1,000+ area houses, working to help others have homes of their own. He served as president of the Upstate Alliance of Realtors®, and was a member of the local, state and national Associations of Realtors® and Associations of Home Builders. He was honored with the North Side High School Distinguished Alumni Award, the Honorary Major of Historic Old Fort Wayne and the UPSTAR Realtor® of the Year and both the Indiana Governors’ Distinguished Hoosier and Sagamore of the Wabash Awards.
At Crescent Avenue Church, Jake met his true love, Lucille (Bauman), whom he married in 1941, and there they continued to be active for decades. Together 76 years, they reared a family, were involved in the community, and travelled extensively. Jake was always an avid reader and active learner. As an Air Force bombardier and navigator in World War II, Jake read maps and developed an affinity and a passion for travel. Jake had an uncanny memory of every back road the family had ever travelled and he encouraged others to visit the known and little known parts of the world.
Jacob will be known for his ethical business practices, his help and support of others, and his willing involvement to better our community. He was born on March 25, 1917 in the parlor of what is now the Carriage House and is pleased with the work the Club House is doing in his family’s former home.
