He was a 1970 graduate of Central Catholic High School. He later obtained his associate degree in Computer Aided Design and spent his work career as a draftsman.
James found the love of his life when he met Sandra Joy Davis. On June 9, 1979 , they married, thus making his life complete, while making their house a home for he and their two sons. They shared 45 years of traveling and loving one another.
James was a proud lifetime member of Moose Lodge 200 and served in many capacities throughout his membership. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed golfing, fishing and watching football. He loved spending time with the family and camping trips with the grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his beloved wife of 45 years, Sandra and two brothers, John and Chuck Finton.
James and his lovable sense of humor will be greatly missed by his sons, Robert (Kathryn) Hunsche and Christopher (Kristy) Finton; seven grandchildren, Kayla, Gavin, Railly, Marissa, Trey, Joey, and AJ; brother, Ray Finton; sister, Cindy (Louis) Guretis along with other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, followed by a Celebration of Life at 7:00 pm.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in James's memory.
