

JAMES "JIM" HILMERT, 76, passed away peacefully Friday, March 15, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. Born in Kalamazoo, Mich., Jim worked at Mag-navox for 35 years, retiring in 1993 as Vice President of Marine Systems. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, IEEE and multiple Magnavox organizations. In his youth he was very athletic, competing in varsity football, basketball and track at Hope College in Holland, Mich. That love for sports continued as he was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed golfing, reading, cross word puzzles, traveling, spending time at the lake at their cottage in Canada, and spending time with his family. Surviving are his loving wife of 47 years, Dorothy "Dommy" Hilmert of Fort Wayne; daughter, Laura Hilmert of Saint Louis, Mo.; son, James Hilmert of Chicago, Ill.; and sister, Alyce (Rev. Robert) Walker of Lakeland, Fla. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob and Henrietta Hilmert. Service is 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne St.- McMillan Chapel with calling one hour prior. Calling also from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, March 18, 2013 at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 East Dupont Rd. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne, Ind. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse Hospice or Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana.
