

JAMES "JIM" R. PLATT, DDS, passed away the evening of Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, at Kingston Memory Care Center, Fort Wayne. Born Nov. 16, 1930, in Fort Wayne, Herschel D. and Louise Veronica Pascaline Smith Platt. Jim graduated from North Side High School in 1949 and enjoyed music and sports. He served in the United States Navy and played in the Navy Band. He graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry, maintained a private practice for over 40 years and taught chemistry at IPFW. Dr. Platt was well known as the humming dentist putting his patients at ease while he worked. He served as president of the Isaac Knapp District Dental Society and the Indiana Dental Association, was a member of the American College of Dentistry and International College of Dentistry, and volunteered at Matthew 25. He was an Elder and life-long member of First Presbyterian Church in Fort Wayne, where he was head usher from 1990 to 2005. Family and career were his primary focus; he was a role model for his field and had a dedicated passion for the dental profession. Jim is survived by his wife, Marianne Platt; children, James (Dee) Platt of Austin, Texas, Jeffrey (Catherine) Platt of Indianapolis, Teresa (Steven) Bolduc of Springfield, Va., and Cheryl Phillips of Fort Wayne; stepsons, Stephen and Jeffrey Gilbert; grandchildren, Joseph (Lindsay) Platt, Laura (Greg) Magnuson, Ana Liza (Brandon) Witham, Rebecca (Matthew) Goldey, Christina Platt, Matthew Bolduc, Alyssa (Christopher) Stutzman, Philip (Callie) Bolduc, Thomas Phillips, Cassie Phillips, and Megan (Logan) Morton; great-grandchildren, Anne Goldey, Julia Magnuson and Natalie Stutzman; brother, Robert (Sandy) Platt of Berlin, Germany; cousins, Joseph and Johanna Conrad; and ten nieces and nephews.There were many people (family, friends, and colleagues) who were very important in his life, just too many to mention. He also had several beloved dogs over the years who were very precious to him. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Lois A. "Billie" Platt; and brother, David D. Platt. Funeral service is 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at First Presbyterian Church, 300 W. Wayne St., with calling one hour prior. The Rev. Jeff Lehn officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at D.O. McComb & Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road. Burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne.
