The Irmscher family has been a respected fixture on our beach at Lake Wawasee.  An exceptionally classy lady, Jane will be truly missed by all.

I knew Jane only casually years ago through the WBA. She was such an accomplished woman-intellect, profession, social standing, and abilities. What impressed me the most however, was how very down to earth, kind, and genuine she was. Her personal warmth set her apart and made her so outstanding in my memory. To all her family I offer my most sincere condolences.

What a wonderful lady and so sweet to talk to who was always interested in what you were doing.  She loved her family and everyone else.  She will be missed by all.  Love and prayers to Dr. Irmscher and the family.

We first met  Jane in the early '60's when Dr. John R. Weber asked her to care for his patients while he was on a semi-extended vacation. Her outstanding qualities were immediately apparent: compassion, intelligence, integrity, humor . . . and so many, many more. We came to love Jane, Bud and their family as members of our family. Again, she possessed so many qualities, she had a steelness of character. Who would have guessed this lady once went para-sailing, yes, that big parachute reaching towering heights? Jane was such a dear and sweet lady whom I greatly admired in so many ways.  Her gentle kindness, her wit and her wisdom were a blessing to all who were fortunate to know her. She will be missed by those she touched and inspired throughout her life.  My sincere condolences go out to the Irmscher family.

I grew up spending my summers down the beach from the Irmscher cottage on lake Wawasee.  My Mom and Jane were great friends.

I remember my Mom and Jane going off on  yearly quests for summer fruit. They would return with vast quantities of whatever fruit was found to be in season at the time. (I should say “we” as Sue, George, Dave and I were often brought along to assist with the picking )  The most memorable were peaches, strawberries, apples, cherries and blueberries.  The most forgettable, gooseberries (I never understood the gooseberries). Then for the next week or so, our kitchens were a frenzy of jam making, pie baking and a few experiments thrown in.  The results were usually edible, sometimes not as expected, but for the most part, wonderful.

I remember her in her Sunfish sailboat.  When the cottage became a bit too full of teenagers and their music, she would get her one (1) can of beer, her silly floppy hat and sail away for an hour or two.  Looking back, I’m surprised she came back at all!

Speaking of sailing,  there was no bigger fan of the sport of sailing than Jane Irmscher.  Up until the last few years, she never missed the Sunday races her kids participated in.  Always following along and cheering them on.

As a teenager, I was inspired to watch Jane punch a hole in the glass ceiling of her profession.  This was in the ‘70s when women were not expected to have much in the way of a career.  She showed me that we women could do great things if we did them with professionalism, ethics, and passion.  She did great things with little fanfare.  She saw what needed to be done, and she did it.

On a more private level, Jane was there for me at a very rough time.  I lost my Mother when I was 5 months pregnant with my first pregnancy, twins.  I was scared spitless.  At a time when a woman needs her Mom, I didn’t have mine.  If I had questions, Jane had answers.  If I had fears, she quieted them.  When I had joys, she shared them.  I don’t know how I could have gotten through that time without her.

I will miss our summer afternoon conversations about anything, everything and nothing.  I will miss puttering in her garden and doing needlework with her.  I will miss her world famous peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cantaloupe, Oreo’s and milk lunches.  I will miss her friendship.

A light has gone out at my end of Lake Wawasee and I will miss it.

So sorry to hear about your mother.  I'm sure she is sailing with Jinks and all the other sailors before her. Smooth sailing Jane.

My deepest sympathy to the Irmscher Family on the loss of your beloved wife and mother.  Jane's was a life truly well-lived and her memory shall remain with all of us who knew and cared about her.  I feel very privileged to have known her and shared several interesting conversations with her at WACF functions. Jane will be greatly missed. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.  Susan Sharp

To the Irmscher Family,
Our sincere consolences to each of you at the loss of your wife, mother, friend.  Jane was certainly a wonderful role model for other professional women to follow; a true inspiration. She made a significan contribution to the world.  
We will miss her also as a bright strong, smiling, face at Wawasee Yacht Club sailing events. She cheered her boys as they raced across the start line in their E-Scow sailboats.  It won't be the same without her.
