

Janice Leann McDanell-Smith, 86, passed away on December 9, 2025, in Peoria, Ariz. Born on March 15, 1939, Jan was known for her energetic and adventurous spirit. She worked hard all of her life. Her careers included being a Home Economics teacher, an interior designer, and a talented creator of beautiful wedding dresses (hundreds). Jan worked thirteen years at the Arizona Cardinal's stadium. She loved flowers, and travel; visiting 6 of the 7 continents.
She was an active member of the Fairfield Church of the Nazarene, Liberty Mills Church of the Nazarene, and Christ's Church of the Valley-Peoria over the years.
Jan is survived by her husband, Jack Smith; children, Mary (Keith Rocke) Boggs-Lambert, Mark (Kim) McDanell, Roger (Rachel) McDanell, Brian (Debbie) Smith, and Dawn (John Gonyer) Magsam; eleven grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Her family remembers her as a hardworking, fun-loving mom and grandma who made everything happen.
Funeral Service is 3:00 PM, January 11, 2026, at Liberty Mills Church of the Nazarene, 10621 Liberty Mills Road, Fort Wayne with calling one hour prior. Friends and family will also be received 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Covington Knolls, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. Private Entombment at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
