

J.C. Butler, 81, joined God in heaven on March 3, 2014. Born in Harned, Kentucky on February 21, 1933, his family moved to Indiana in 1948. He graduated from Dyer High School in 1951 and received a football scholarship to Central Methodist College in Fayette, Mo. He married his high school sweetheart in 1951, played college football for 4 years and earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1955. He taught Biology, Science, Health, and Driver's Education over a 40 year career, one year in Missouri, 5 years in Plymouth, IN, and 34 years in Fort Wayne, IN. His teaching career was accompanied by his love of coaching football, basketball, baseball, track, tennis, and golf. He also mentored a Chess Club for 5 years. His summers were spent enjoying fishing, camping, coaching baseball, playing softball with his adult children, and for 20 years, installing swimming pools for NISCO pools in Fort Wayne. He attended West Main Church of the Nazarene for many years.
He is survived by his son Dave (JoAn) Butler, Columbia City; daughter Rhonda (Art) Daronatsy, Huntington; and daughter Carol (Anna Piech) Butler, Fort Wayne. Also surviving are his 5 grandchildren, Jason (Alex) Butler, Emily Butler,Lisa Daronatsy, Laura Daronatsy, Christopher Butler, and one great-granddaughter, Olivia Butler. In addition, his siblings Naomi, Mary, Latitia, Zelba, and Edith, and his dear friend and companion, Delores Ruby.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Bernetta and caring son, Ken.
Funeral Service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday March 15, 2014 at Greenlawn Funeral Home with visitation from 12-1 P.M. Visitation also Friday March 14, 2014 4-8 at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton F.H. 420 W.
