Jerry D. Akers, 76, of Fort Wayne, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012. He was born November 4, 1935 in Fort Wayne to the late William and Ethel (Koomler) Akers. Mr. Akers worked for nearly 50 years as a tool salesman, working for Mac Tool and Cornwell Tool and then owning and operating Mechanics Tool Warehouse. In the later years of his career, many referred to him as the “Tool Man”. He was also a licensed realtor. Mr. Akers enjoyed spending time with his family at Snow Lake, teaching his kids to water ski and sail. He loved the outdoors where he would spend his time beautifying his yard. Surviving are his children, Rick (Esther) Akers and Terri (Chad) Henline, both of Fort Wayne; grandchildren, Carson and Kierstyn Henline. Also preceding him in death was his son, Randy Akers in 1980; and sisters, Virginia Stoffel and Mary Lou Sinks. Graveside service will be Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 11:30 A.M. at Uniontown Cemetery, Zanesville, Indiana. Visitation will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 from 5 to 8 P.M. and Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 9 to 11 A.M. at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home For Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, IN. Preferred memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Diabetes Association.
