

Jerry L. Buchan, 84, passed away in his home on Saturday, April 8, 2023. A resident of Fort Wayne, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary (Waltenburg) Buchan. He was a 1956 graduate of Elmhurst High School. After high school, Jerry studied engineering at Purdue University. Jerry later transferred to Indiana University and received a bachelor's degree in business management. He went on to attend the University of Saint Francis where he obtained a master's degree in business management. In 1961, Jerry was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Germany, proudly serving his country during the Bay of Pigs and the Cuban Missile Crisis era for the Kennedy administration. Jerry worked in management for the Lear Corporation for five years, United Tech for an additional five years, and 23 and a half years at Magnavox. He enjoyed the great outdoors, camping, shooting sports, and fly-fishing. Jerry made his own fishing flies and lures to use during his many fishing trips. He was a proud member of the NRA, a scoutmaster for the Cub Scouts of America, a teacher for the Junior Achievement program, and an avid ham radio operator; KC9ZCF. Jerry was also a member of the New Haven Freemasons Lodge #740 and the Mizpah Shriners. He is survived by his beloved wife, Audrey (Wahlig) Buchan; a daughter, Angela (Dustin) Kimbrell; two sons, Joseph Buchan, and Shawn Buchan; five grandchildren, Jacqueline (Jesse) Barnes, Thomas "Jake" Beckman, Emily Kimbrell, Tessa Buchan, and Chase Buchan; two step-grandchildren, Tabitha Kimbrell, and Dyllon Kimbrell; five great-grandchildren, Eila, Jasper, Anastasia, Wesley, and Silas; four step-great-grandchildren; an uncle, Jake Waltenburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his four brothers, David, Tom, Jim, and Bert; and three brothers-in-law, Larry, Dave, and Lowell. Public visitation for Jerry will be held on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals, 6810 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46809. A funeral service will occur on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 11:00 AM, with public visitation one hour prior. Graveside services will be held at Eel River Cemetery in Churubusco, Indiana immediately following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jerry's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or The American Heart Association.
