Jim was born in April 1951, in Kokomo, Indiana to Douglas R. and Louise Simmons, who both preceded him in death. A 1969 graduate of Kokomo High School, Jim was a manager at the north-end (of Kokomo) Dairy Queen. In 1977, he purchased the Dairy Queen in Frankfort, IN. He was the owner of the Dairy Queen in Gas City, Indiana. Later, he was a long-time employee of the Fort Wayne Foundry.
Jim is survived by one son, David (Maegan) Simmons and grandson Evan of Conroe, Texas; a brother, Danny (Sandy) Simmons of Clermont, Florida; sisters Sandra Mince of Kokomo, Indiana and Karen (Gary) Willis of Westfield, IN; 6 nieces and nephews, 6 great-nieces and nephews, and 2 great-great nieces.
He was also preceded in death by brother-in-law Jimmy C. Mince.
A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
