Joan I. Sterling

Joan I. Sterling, 92, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at Canterbury Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne. She was born in Lima, OH, to the late Walter Scott and Iva Marie Dodge. She moved to Fort Wayne as a young girl and graduated from South Side High School in 1943. Joan worked for General Telephone for several years and retired as a Secretary with Fort Wayne Community Schools. Joan enjoyed cross country and downhill skiing, sewing, and gardening, but her passion was spending time with her family and grandson. Surviving are her son, Steven R. Sterling of Nashville, IN; daughters, Deborah Pierce of Fort Myers, FL; Sandra Sterling of Fort Wayne, IN; grandson, Ian Sterling of Fort Wayne, IN; sister, Winifred Schelper of Fort Wayne, IN. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur William Sterling, brother, Richard Conway Dodge, and sons-in-law, Maurice Pierce and George James Arthur. Service is 10:30 am, Saturday June 2, 2018 at D. O. McComb & Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road with calling one hour prior. Calling also Friday, June 1, 2018, from 2- 4 & 6 - 8 pm. Private burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana. Memorials may be made to the Heart to Heart Hospice.
