Obituary of John Galgozy
John Galgozy, 92, passed away November 15, 2020 in Fort Wayne Indiana. He was born in Warren, Ohio to the late John and Bertha Sabo Galgozy. John graduated from Warren G Harding and was a retired electrician from Republic Steel. He was a proud Navy veteran, 1946-50, attended the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and served on a destroyer: the USS RK Huntington DD781. In 1947, John and 3 crew members were awarded Letters of Commendation for their meritorious actions, of brilliantly manning a 40ft whaleboat, in the dark among strong winds and swells, and locating and rescuing a distressed couple crying out for help, after their small boat capsized on Lake Michigan. John loved playing the guitar and was a member of the A.F. Musicians Union No 118. He was an avid photographer, ham radio operator and had a vigorous desire for reading, history, navigation, electronics, genealogy, and books. Throughout his life he cherished the time he spent with family and friends and especially loved his coffee outings. He had a real knack for making people laugh. His use of idioms and aphorisms was like no other and his two favorites were "steady as she goes" and ""hurry up and wait ". Surviving are his children: Jane Margo-Galgozy and Dale A Galgozy of Ohio, Cheryl L Marshall of Indiana; two grandchildren Marissa (Ed) Renz and John (Jessica) Marshall; one great granddaughter Maya; one brother Ernie Galgozy and one sister Carol J. (John) Young, both of Niles. He also was preceded in death by his brothers Richard S Galgozy and Donald E Galgozy Sr.
