John Arthur Painter, age 80, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2025. He was born July 2, 1944, in New Castle, Indiana to the late Lowell and Eileen (neé Stubbs) Painter. John attended Spiceland High School, Class of '62, where he lettered in track and basketball, and was known for launching the game winning shot against New Castle in the '62 Indiana Sectionals.
John matriculated from Purdue University in 1967 and served in the ROTC program during his academic career. It was during this time that John met the love of his life, Cindy, and the couple wed in August of the same year. They would relocate to Nuremberg, Germany where John managed a U.S. Army Supply Depot and Cindy taught elementary school on the base. Upon their return to the States, they would mutually obtain their master’s degrees from Ball State University. Following graduation, John assumed the role of controller for Nicholson File in Anderson, Indiana and later relocated to Fort Wayne as Budget Director for International Harvester. Ultimately, he would found Flagship Financial, where he specialized in Life Insurance, Small Business Health Insurance, and Retirement Planning. John achieved the designation of CEP and held various Securities Licenses.
John had many passions and interests outside his career including cheering on his beloved Purdue basketball team, woodworking, landscaping, antiquing, and travel; but cherished time with family at the lake the most. He was a man of integrity, strong faith, benevolence and charity, serving as the Chairman of the Endowment Committee for St. Joe United Methodist Church.
