John Paul Smith, 66, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born January 15, 1956 in Huntington, Indiana, the son of the late Charles Glenn and Ruby Jane Johnson, who survives.
John graduated from Huntington North High School in 1974. He retired in 2020 as the Parts Manager for Brandeis Machinery of Fort Wayne, with over 15 years of service. John was an avid, diehard Chicago Bears and Indiana Hoosiers fan. He was the life of the party and missed his calling as a standup comedian. John enjoyed playing softball in his younger years, coaching, and making his famous popcorn and salsa. He will be remembered for having a good bourbon and a shot of fireball or two. His true passion was his family and being the best husband, father, and grandfather he could be.
John is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Lisa Taylor-Smith of Fort Wayne, IN; children, Morgan (Oscar Morales) Smith of Huntington, IN, Brandon (Candice Everage) Smith of Fort Wayne, IN, Callie (Brian Zigler) Smith of Fort Wayne, IN; mother, Ruby Jane Johnson of Fort Wayne, IN; siblings, Charles Smith of Fort Wayne, IN, Kathy (Doug) Sauers, Trent (Shirley) Smith, both of Columbia City, IN; and grandchildren, Lillian and Callen. In addition to his father, John was preceded in death by his sister, Amelia Jane McCoart.
A visitation to honor John's life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road, Fort Wayne.
