Joseph Anderson Cockrell Sr., 73, was born July 14, 1953, in Washington, District of Columbia, to the late James and Rose (Toney) Cockrell. He passed away on September 8, 2026, at his home with family by his side. Joe resided in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Throughout his life, Joe brought steady dedication and quiet strength to all he undertook. He worked many years in sales and logistics, earning the respect of those who knew him for his reliability and the care he brought to his responsibilities.
On October 27, 1979, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Joe married Sandra Villa. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Cockrell; his son, Joseph (Jennifer) Cockrell Jr. of Surprise, Arizona; and his daughter, Kristin (Jonathan) Tiedman of Leo, Indiana. He was a proud grandfather to Addison, JT, Vada, and Rhett. Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Aunt Mildred; Uncle Bob; and his granddaughter, Julie Ann Cockrell.
Joe’s interests reflected a full and engaged life. He loved the Washington Redskins, enjoyed cigars, and valued time spent traveling. He also gave generously of himself as a Coach for PAL Football, offering guidance and encouragement to others through his time and presence.
Faith and community were central to Joe’s life. He was active at St. John Chrysostom Orthodox Church, participated in the Men’s Group, and served as a Past Parish President, contributing with devotion and a deep sense of responsibility.
