My first memories of Uncle Joe were when I was a little girl and he would come to visit the family in New York. He was always such a big man to me, so tall and he had a smile that would light up a room. I will never forget that smile.
My last memory of seeing him was attending a family reunion at his cottage. My mom and I were helping him prep food and do dishes and he was telling me about his time in the service. Joking about his times with his buddies and telling little stories, just having a good visit. I enjoyed his company so much that weekend and I just decided to try to keep in touch by writing to him. Not knowing if he would write back or not. I was so excited to see that shortly after my first letter he did. We became pretty good pen pals!! I will cherish his letters to me. He would always end them with the phrase that he had been blessed, that God had been good to him. He loved his family, kids and grand kids so much. I will never forget you my sweet Uncle Joe
