Juanita “Nita” Amy (Brock) McConnell, 92, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, went to be with our Lord on September 2, 2023. She finally joined her beloved husband, Dick, nearly to the day 45 years later. Nita was born to J. Victor Brock and Beatrice Iona (Keener) Brock on February 22, 1931, in “Waynedale” Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was baptized, confirmed, and married in Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, and was nearly a life-long member. She attended Mount Calvary Lutheran School through 8th grade and graduated from Elmhurst High School in 1949 where she often cheered on the basketball team along with her dad, Vic. She lost her first love to drowning shortly after high school. She graduated from International Business College where she met the love of her life, Richard “Dick” C. McConnell. They were married on October 19, 1952. She was a secretary for the Teamsters Union until the birth of their daughter. Following the pre-mature death of Dick at 47 years old, she worked at GTE in the Purchasing Department. She loved her flowers and animals and was known for her famous chocolate chip cookies! She is survived by her daughter, Molly (Chris) (McConnell, O’Connor) Alderdice; son, David (Karen) McConnell; three grandchildren, Justin McConnell, Megan (Stephen) Motherwell, and Michael O’Connor; three great-grandchildren, Raymond McConnell, Bryson Schilling, and Hazel Schilling; sister-in-law, Kathleen Taylor; former caregiver and daughter-in-law, Eve McConnell; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; their stillborn twins; her parents; two sisters, Iona Mock and Doris Fitch; nieces, Susan Brown and Jody Petersen; in-laws, Richard “Dick” K. McConnell and Evangeline “Van” McConnell; brother-in-law's, John “Bud” Mock, Linwood “Lin” Fitch, Kenneth “Kenny” McConnell and Melvin Taylor; and her sister-in-law, Geraldine “Gerry” McConnell. A funeral service will be held at 2:30pm on Friday, September 8, 2023 at Greenlawn Funeral Home 6750 Covington Road Fort Wayne, Indiana 46804, with visitation one hour prior. She will be buried next to her husband at Greenlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to her long-time charity, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Cancer Services of Northeast Indiana, or Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
