Obituary of Katherine Sue Bishop
Katherine (Kathie) Bishop died August 3, 2021 at the age of 78. She was born June 5, 1943 in Faribault, Minnesota to parents John and Oma Kauffman and lived in Willmar, Minnesota for most of her childhood. Kathie graduated from Willmar High School in 1961, then from Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1965 with a B.A. and later an M.A. degree in music. After marriage to William Maki, the couple moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where Kathie taught music in the East Allen County School District. She also taught in the Associated Church’s Weekday Religious Education Program. She was later employed at Sears Telecatalog, Sears Customized Delivery Services, Lincoln National Life Insurance, H&R Block, Liberty Tax Services, and Fort Wayne Community Schools. Kathie was a member of First Presbyterian Church for many years where she sang in the choir, served as a Deacon, and chaired the Matthew 25 Committee among other activities. She enjoyed volunteering with the AARP Tax Aid Program, Junior Achievement, and the North Anthony Neighborhood Association. Kathie also liked attending the Fort Wayne Philharmonic concerts and many other plays and music programs in the city. She loved to travel, read, and work Sudoku puzzles. Kathie is survived by her daughters Karen (Jeff) Hampton; Susan Gillies (fiancé Brian Hipp); and grandchildren Quinn and Andrew Gillies and Karissa Hampton. She was preceded in death by her life partner Jo Gallant. A Memorial service will be 2pm Saturday September 4, 2021 at First Presbyterian Church 300 W. Wayne St. Fort Wayne IN., with visitation one hour prior. The family has requested that masks are required. Private burial at Lindenwood Cemetery.
