
The family ultimately settled in Fort Wayne, where they raised Kathryn and her brother, H. Warren Cook. Kay was blessed with a magnificent Soprano voice. She sang with the Trinity Lutheran Choir where the family were life-long members.
Kay met her husband, Reverend Paul Alva Bankston at Trinity Lutheran Church. Days after marrying, Paul received orders to join his army unit. Kay remained in Fort Wayne with her parents throughout war time. Once they were reunited, Kay and Paul served several congregations during their marriage. Upon Paul's death, Kathryn met and married Dr. Walter Jurgensen, of Fort Wayne.
The Bankston family grew to include daughter Kathryn Bankston Olson, now of Fort Wayne; and her daughter, Kathryn Elizabeth, wife of Michael Yurth, and their son Dawson Yurth, all of Prosser, Washington. Paul and Kathryn also had a son, David P Bankston MD, husband of Kathleen Cappellucci. They are parents of Susan Bankston of Austin,Texas; Amanda Bankston of San Angelo, Texas and Jessica Bankston White, her husband David, their daughter Reagan Kathleen, and son Dallas John White, all of Leawood, Kansas.
Kathryn has been interred at Lindenwood Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
