He graduated from Snider High School in 1980 and graduated from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Science in public affairs.
Kent was active in the Snider marching band, playing the tuba. He earned his Eagle Scout on May 9,1975. He graduated in the 42nd Class of the Indiana State Police Academy on November 17, 1984 and continued to serve Indiana for the next 41 years until his passing. Kent considered the Indiana State Police as part of his family.
He learned to play the banjo at age 16. Kent mastered his playing and was a member of Shady Grove Steam & Grass and Roanoke Rounders. He enjoyed playing at the bluegrass festivals in Indiana and Arkansas, jamming with his fellow musicians. Kent played for Audiences Unlimited at various nursing facilities. He shared his love of the banjo by teaching many to play. He was a member of the Northern Indiana Bluegrass Association.
Kent also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time at his cabin in Missouri and making that a place for his family to enjoy. He was Cub Master for many years with troop 3046. He enjoyed making projects with his father for his family.
Kent’s goal was to love and provide for his family, which he did beyond measure. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could tell the best stories. He had the biggest and warmest heart. He touched many lives and is deeply missed.
He married Debbie (Barnes) Roe on January 17, 1987. He was a loving and devoted father to Mark (Brittany) Roe, Carl Roe and Laura (Pit) Roe-Weiske. He was the amazing Grandpa & Paw to Kaleb, Reilley, Landon, Logan, Colten and Conner. Kent is also survived by his father, Richard Roe; sister, Holly Evans; niece, Ashley Evans; nephew, Ben (Melissa) Evans; and great-nieces, Harper and Avery Evans. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Taylor Chapel Ministries, 10145 Maysville Road, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be from 5:00 pm- 8:00 pm Friday, December 5, 2025, at D.O. McComb and Sons Pine Valley Park Funeral Home, 1320 E. Dupont Road, Fort Wayne, IN.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the donor’s choice of Freedom Hunt, Boy Scouts, Northern Indiana Bluegrass Association or Audiences Unlimited.
