Kent D. Swihart, 83, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018 at Parkview Hospital Randallia in Fort Wayne. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN, to the late Ned and Bertha Mildred Swihart. Kent graduated from Arcola High School in 1953. He was a US Army Veteran and served for 6 years. Kent worked as a Forklift Driver with International Harvester for 28 years, retiring in 1989. He delivered trucks for Kenworth Truck Dealers for 9 years; worked part time at Tom Kelley and 20 years as a clerk for Fort Myers Truck Stop. Kent was a longtime member of Lake Chapel United Methodist Church. Kent was an avid Nascar enthusiast and enjoyed attending local small track races. His other hobbies include playing euchre, traveling and camping with his extended family for over 43 years and attending his high school class reunions Kent also enjoyed working on his farm and mowing his yard. He was a man that simply loved life to the fullest. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Phyllis M Swihart of Fort Wayne, IN; daughter, Rebecca Sue (James) Smith Theresa Marie (Allen) Miller, brother, Bruce (Ann) Swihart, sister, Linda Keller all of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Melissa (Jamie) Dobbs of Marion, IN; Joseph "Joey" (Sarah) Smith of Fort Wayne, IN. Kent was preceded in death by his brother, Kermit Swihart. Service is 10:00 am, Friday June 8, 2018 at D.O. McComb & Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road with calling one hour prior, with Pastor Harold Klinker officiating. Calling also Thursday, June 7, 2018, 2 - 4 & 6 pm - 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne, Indiana.
