With a heavy heart, I would like to announce the passing of Khailah Ann Mercedes Badder-LaVictor (Dumas). Khailah passed away at her home in Fort Wayne, IN on November 10th, 2022. It is unknown why this tragedy occurred as she was alone at the time.
Khailah, or Khai as we affectionately called her, was born on February 26th, 1997, at War Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. She was the first-born child to Erica Badder and John LaVictor.
Through the years, Khai had many adventures. She lived in Michigan, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, and finally, Indiana. She enjoyed music, drawing, swimming, exploring nature, playing video games, and education. She was spiritual person and loved meditation and energizing with crystals.
Khailah was a student at University of Phoenix in an online program. She was in her third year of school prior to her death. She took great pride in her studies and maintained a 3.7 GPA.
She is survived by her mother & stepfather, Erica & Edward Downs of Colorado; loving brother and best friend Michael Germain Jr. of San Juan, Puerto Rico; Stepsister Ekkoe Templeton of Mount Pleasant, MI; Father John LaVictor of Sault Ste Marie, MI; Grandparents Arthur & Perri Cooper of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Valerie LaVictor of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, Sharon Downs of Sault Ste. Marie, MI, and Terry & Suzy Niemi of Dafter; several younger siblings and many aunts and uncles. Khai shared a large part of her life with her aunts, Caitlin Cooper of Bay Mills, Chelsea Cooper of Sault Ste. Marie, and Delia LaVictor of Sault Ste Marie. She had a good relationship with her uncle Jason LaVictor of Pontiac, MI as well. She also had 2 father figures- Michael Germain of Manistique and Edward Downs of Colorado. Both had a big part of raising this wonderful young woman. She had many friends and acquaintances throughout her life. Few were very close but she made a great impact on them all.
At the time of her passing, Khailah was living with her partner, Troy Solomon of Fort Wayne, IN. Understandably, he is greatly saddened and will miss her dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at the Sault Tribe Cultural Center in Sault Ste. Marie, MI on Sunday, November 20th at 1-5 PM. There will be a meal provided. If you would like to bring something to pass, please feel free. In lieu of flowers, please make donation to the family for travel expenses.
We hope to see you all there.
