Lara Patricia Stewart, 58, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family. She was born on February 14, 1967, in Atlanta, Georgia, the daughter of the late Lamar Smith and Patty Smith, who survives.
Lara lived a life enriched by creativity, kindness, and a deep appreciation for beauty in the world and around her. She was an avid reader; she found comfort and inspiration in books, and she shared that love of learning with everyone she met. Her artistic spirit shone through ceramics, painting, quilting, sewing and mixed media projects as well as in teaching others to explore their own creativity.
Animals and flowers held a special place in Lara's Heart -- whether nurturing a beloved pet, admiring a garden in bloom, or finding joy in the simple presence of nature, she showed compassion for all living things. At home, her hands were rarely still, often crocheting items that carried warmth and love to family and friends.
Above all, family was the center of Lara's world. Every gathering was brighter by her laughter, patience, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. Through her interest and passions, Lara created not only art, but also lasting memories, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, creativity, and care.
Lara graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. She worked at the Krasl Art Center in Saint Joseph, MI, and at Second Hand Rose in Stevenville, MI. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fort Wayne, IN.
Lara married the love of her life, Daniel Stewart, on July 6, 1988, in Atlanta, GA. Dan and Lara's legacy continues through their children. She is survived by her husband, Daniel, of Grabill, IN; son Jared (Carly) Stewart of Pioche, NV; daughter Callie (Kayden) Coleman of Rexburgh, ID; sister Julie (Robbie) Green of Toccoa, GA; brother Matthew Smith of Toccoa, CA; and her mother, Patty Smith of Toccoa, GA.
