Obituary of Louie Lee Stone
Louie L. Stone, 89, passed away on March 2, 2021 at Golden Years Homestead. He was born on November 12, 1931 to Samuel L. and J. Inez Stone in Prairie Grove Arkansas, the fourth of their five children. He came to Fort Wayne in 1952 where he met and married the love of his life, Jane L. Purcell on July 30, 1952. Returning home from the service with the U. S. Army in Europe, they eventually settled in New Haven and raised two daughters, Cathy Stone and Sharon (James) Ragan. His daughters shared their father’s love of “Real” country music, stock-car racing, and rodeos. Louie was proud of his 37-year career as a truck driver with Sherman White, Anderson Motors, and OK Trucking where he retired in 1993. He enjoyed his part time employment with Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Funeral Homes. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers, Gene, Fred, and Howard; sister, Lucille Elkins; and his loving wife of 50 years, Jane. I addition to his daughters, both of New Haven, he will be missed by grandchildren, Sarah, James “Chip”, Jason, Troy, Michelle, Jimmy, Cathy, Tracy, and Rachel; 12 great grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. His Celebration of Life Service will be Monday, March 8, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Joe Community Church, 2900 North Anthony Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46805 with visitation one hour prior. Visitation will also be Sunday, March 7, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the church. Pastor Greg Byman will be officiating. Donations in Louie’s memory may be made to St. Joe Community Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Donor’s Choice. Louie’s family wishes to express deep and sincere gratitude to Golden Years Homestead, United Healthcare Nurse Practitioner Geana Terry, and Visiting Nurse Hospice for their exceptional care and family support.
