

Lynn Wendell Shady, 85 years old, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Thursday March 18th at Parkview Heart Hospital. Lynn was born the oldest son born to Wendell and Gaynelle (Bryant) Shady, on July 15, 1935 in Bluffton. Lynn was a graduate of Elmhurst High School. He served in the Marine Reserves and then in Army during the Korean War. During his service, he proudly served in Korea, and maintained many friendships with his American and Korean servicemen long after his service ended. He was proud of his service and continued to be involved in several veteran organizations in the Fort Wayne area. Lynn also gave his time with other volunteer opportunities after he retired. Lynn retired from Slater Steel. He volunteered as a driver for the Red Cross, volunteered in many roles with the VFW, the American Legion, the Lions Club, Korean War Veterans Group and Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana. One of his favorite activities was visiting the area schools on numerous occasions to teach the children about our country’s history. He served as a Guardian on two occasions for his fellow servicemen travelling to Washington DC on their Honor Flight trips. He also participated in community outreach with First Wayne Street United Methodist Church. He was an avid gardener and enjoyed being at family events and visiting with his longtime friends.
Lynn left lasting impression on everyone he met, with his kind and giving spirit. His family, his network of friends and neighbors have suffered a great loss.
He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Donna (McCague) and his son Greg and daughter-in-law Linda (Parnin) of New Haven. He is survived by his brother Neal and sister-in-law Donna (Hitt) Shady, sister-in-law Marilyn and brother-in-law Greg Gemmill, brother-in-law Kenny Millikan, many beloved nieces and nephews; Laura and Jeff Adams, Steve and Kelly Bordner, Mark and Michelle Bordner, Dean Bogden, Darren Bogden and several great nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his sister Marcella and brother-in-law Neal Border, and brother-in-law Danny Bogden.
Services will be held at D.O. McCombs Lakeside with calling on Thursday March 25, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. An additional calling will be held prior to the funeral service on Friday March 26 at First Wayne United Methodist Church. Calling will start at 12:00p.m., funeral service at 1:00 p.m., followed by a procession to Greenlawn Cemetery.
