Obituary of Margaret Alice Carmer
Margaret Alice Carmer October 13, 1924 – December 2, 2020 Margaret Alice Lovell Carmer passed into eternal life on December 2, 2020 at age 96 after struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease for 2 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, George Clayton Carmer, in 2013. She leaves behind two children Brenda Richardson Rev. Scott (Rev. Toni) Carmer, five grandchildren, Daniel (Destiny) Richardson and Benjamin (Paola) Richardson, Matthew (Jennifer) Carmer, Christopher (Melanie) Carmer, Dominique (Andrew) Hyndman and ten great-grandchildren. Ariel, Syklar, Connor, Elijah, Clayton, Ella, Riley, Sophia, Olivia, Jonah. She grew up on a farm in southern Michigan and met George at a dance at Buck Lake Ranch in Angola shortly following his return from Naval Service in World War II. They were married on November 16, 1946 and settled in Fort Wayne. A stay-at-home mom, her life centered around her family and her church. She was an instrumental member of the Women’s Society for Christian Service (since renamed United Methodist Women), at Forest Park United Methodist Church. For many years she coordinated the activities of the church kitchen whenever there was a special dinner or event. She was also a leader for many years of UMW small groups. She and George were members of the Young Adult Sunday School class from 1946 until 2018 which continued to refer to themselves as the Young Adult class. She was heavily involved in all of her children’s activities – school, scouts, band – and participated with them in all of their fund raising activities. She delighted in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Warm and outgoing, she seldom met a stranger. Because of the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic, there will be no public service or remembrance. A private graveside service will be held for the family in Auburn, Indiana officiated by the Rev. Toni L. Carmer. Memorial gifts would be appreciated for the Lucille Raines Residence in Indianapolis, a residential facility owned and operated by United Methodist Women of Indiana for men and women actively engaged in rebuilding their lives from substance abuse. 947 N.
