Mary - My sympathy on the loss of your dear mom.  She must have been a wonderful woman, and I know she raised a very kind daughter!  Please know of my prayers in the days ahead.

Thank you, Mrs. Haft, for teaching me the piano. What a gift! I still have all of my old books, and I pull them out from time to time. My condolences to the Haft family.

She was a Precious Blood pillar.
She was such a hard worker and asset to our plays and programs for many years.

Continued: And then there were the musicals. It wasn’t until recently after reminiscing with her about the musicals that I realized what it took to be the accompanist. The hours away from her family after school, the hours she spent practicing and recording the music so that the actors could practice their songs at home, the patience waiting for the volunteer choreographers to teach the dance is mind boggling. The impact she had on the musicals is priceless. Students will forever remember and have benefitted from the experience. She remembers all of their names.
Art. Margaret was also an artist. She used her gift to embellish the countless notes she sent out from her bed in the nursing home. The notes were uplifting and many times inspirational. She wrote and drew on scrap paper. Even when given new stationery she chose to use recycled IBM paper and backs of data cards. She also stayed in contact through phone calls and Facebook. At 95 she kept track of everyone! A testament to the connections she maintained is the number of visitors she had on a daily basis.
Faith. The church and praying were central to her life. All benefited from her prayers for them. She was a member of the rosary society and sang with the Resurrection Choir that provided for music during funerals. When teaching at PB she participated in the Wednesday morning prayer group and facilitated the summer children’s liturgies. She suffered much but seldom mentioned it. How hard it must have been to be in a bed for over two years.
We all will miss our friend, colleague and teacher.

“With every touch of the keys, their hands unlock the magic of music, guiding children’s hearts to dance and dream as they learn to play the piano.”
When I read this quote from Margaret, it overwhelmed me. I was one of her many students, her colleague at Precious Blood, and friend. I was privileged to know her over 60 years. In high school I took piano lessons from her but wasn’t a serious student. Looking over her glasses. she’d say, “Not much time to practice this week?” Recently she made a remark about the mistake I made on a piano solo in a competition! Her memory was outstanding! She taught my siblings, children, nieces and nephew, and countless Precious Blood children among others. You could count on penciled in remarks, helpful hints and stickers in your music book. I still have those books and got to play a few pieces from those books with her in her last few————: what a gift. During visits to the nursing home, we sang songs from the children’s liturgies. “Thank you Lord for giving us life, Jesus in the Morning, may the blessings of God be upon you, angels all around us to name a few.
Children’s liturgies at PB were special. Margaret discovered music and created ways for the children to fully participate in the mass. Her classroom music lessons included favorites that engaged the Kindergartners-Witches Brew, I’m singing a solo, songs that used rhythm instruments to name a few. It’s amazing to think that Margaret was a registered nurse and mother with no degree in music education. She just knew how to engage children.

My earliest memories of childhood put me in the dining room watching Margaret teach piano. She would babysit me while my mom, Nancy Roebuck would work at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Chucky as I call him was my best friend, we used to play outside in the backyard on 5th St.  Miss Margaret would always have snacks and cookies fresh from the oven.  Back in the early days, there was a new drink out that the astronauts drank, my mom would never buy it, but I knew that I could drink it over at Miss Margaret’s house. Guess what that powdered orange drink was? Tang!  Those were the good old days! God bless the Haft family during this difficult time.  I’m sure she is up in heaven teaching some lost soul how to play piano.

Mrs. Haft inspired my lifelong love and dedication for music. 🎶  I hope you all take comfort in the fact that she is singing in the most perfect choir and gets to spend the rest of eternity, rejoicing and singing for God himself.

I’m so saddened to read this about Mrs. Haft. She was a wonderful person and my son’s musics teacher at Precious Blood and private piano lessons at night. May you RIP Mrs. Haft you will truly be missed by all.😢🙏❤️✝️

Our sympathy to the Haft family and those who loved her.  As a young mother at Most Precious Blood Church/ School, Mrs. Haft was my cheerleader.  She encouraged me to attend a Bible study group to deepen my faith and let me know that parenting was one of the most important things and it would all be  okay! 
but don’t stop praying!  She was right!  Our son was one of her piano students also!  We cherish her letters that always included a musical note drawing! 
May the perpetual light shine on her!

Our condolences to the Haft kids. Your mom brought music to our family over the years - one half hour lesson at a time! We will never forget her.
