Marianne Hess, 87, passed away Friday, April 30, 2021 at her home. She was born February 1, 1934 in Bellaire, Ohio, a daughter of the late Edward and Betty Jackson.

She was an active member of Saint Joseph United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering, singing in the choir, writing plays, and giving sermons as a lay speaker in her home churches and others across northeast Indiana. Throughout her life, she gravitated towards jobs that allowed her to work with people, and she made lifelong friends along the way at The Journal Gazette, Artificial Limb Company, and Crazy Sisters Coffee. Not one to sit around in "retirement," she spent the last 10 + years ushering for events at Purdue Fort Wayne and the Embassy Theatre, occasionally making an appearance as Mrs. Claus.

She is survived by her three beloved children, John (Carolyn) Hess, Haslett, MI, Thomas (Connie) Hess, Westerville, OH, Janet (Randy) Treadway, Fort Wayne, IN, and sister-in-law, Carol Jackson. She took special pride in telling everyone she met about her seven grandchildren; Matthew (Amber Sullivan) Hess, Blue Island, IL, Nichole (Larry) Niewenhuis, Grand Ledge, MI, Ashley (Jason) Southern, Fort Wayne, IN, Aubrey (James) Hofmann, Westerville, OH, Erica (Nick) Timm, Greenfield, WI, Casey (Thomas) Stradtner, South Lake Tahoe, CA, and Kyra Hess, Boston MA. She enjoyed every minute of her time as Gigi to great-grandchildren; Nora, Ella, Ramona, Greyson, and Sansa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and younger brother, Edward Jackson.

A funeral service will be held at 2:30 pm on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at Saint Joseph United Methodist Church, 6004 Reed Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46835 with calling one hour prior.

Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 8 pm on Friday, May 7, 2021 at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home, 4017 Maplecrest Road, Ft. Wayne, IN 46815.

Dear John, Tom and Janet,

You were so blessed to have such a wonderful and extraordinary woman as your Mother. She was always so loving and caring to everyone she met. She always treated me like one of her own and I will always remember her laughter, beautiful smile and caring ways. I loved her so much and will miss talking to her.

May God wrap his loving arms around all three of you and your families and guide you through this time. I am always here for you.
All my love always,
Judy Sickles

Our deepest sympathies to Janet and family. Janet, Randy and the girls were dear neighbors for years and we had the privilege of seeing and getting to know Marianne when she would visit. She was always smiling and had kind words to share. Love for her family was her first priority. We were so excited one year when we visited the Festival of Trees to see her as Mrs. Clause. It was the perfect part for her. Marianne will be deeply missed.

Dear John, Tom, and Janet,
Your mother's smile will be with me always. She could light up a room. She will be missed dearly. She was a great person and loved by all. I know this is a sad time for you all, and I wish I could say it gets easier, but there isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of my mom. They were good friends and are now together in heaven.
Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Love.

I met Marianne when I joined the Embassy almost 13 years ago. My birthday was the day after hers and Mary Carney's. She was such a sweetheart and a kind person. She loved showering the staff and volunteers with treats and gifts whenever she could. Several years ago, she made a teddy bear for me that wore a trench coat and a fedora that I will cherish always. I'm so glad she stopped in early last week to visit. She was in great spirits that day, and she was sharing stories and updates with us from the past year. I'm going to miss her so much. She was a special person, and I'm glad to have called my dear friend. Rest in peace my darling.

I remember Marianne fondly. My grandparents lived across the street from her when I was growing up. I used to spend a lot of time at her house with Janet. She was always so nice to me. She will be missed by many. Prayers for her family to find peace.

I met Marianne almost 20 years ago at the Embassy, we would work concessions together, that is where it all began. We shared the same birthday and she always told everyone we were around that we were sisters from different mothers. Every week we talked, she would call me and talk to me on my way home for 40 minutes. I will miss hearing her voice and stories. To John, Tom, and Janet, please know that your mother had a great day on Tuesday, I stopped and saw her, she told me she had stopped by the Embassy and had a wonderful visit. She was looking forward to working on Wednesday’s taking tickets. My sincere condolences to the entire family. Heaven gained a wonderful angel!
