Marilyn L. (Johnson) Schmitt

Marilyn was united in holy matrimony with John W. Schmitt on July 30, 1966, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. More than anything else, she loved caring for her family. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing cards and BINGO, as well as visiting the casinos. She had a special love for nature, including the ocean, but especially animals. Marilyn was gifted with a green thumb and loved flowers and plants. She spent a lifetime nurturing her own flower garden and gave away budding Rose-of-Sharon plants to anyone who wanted them. (There is at least one "Marilyn Row" planted in northern Indiana.) She enjoyed her '50s and '60s music whether at home or taking a drive, but she loved to blast "In the Air Tonight" while driving her Trans-Am. Marilyn also loved bowling with John on Friday nights with the Strokers League and with the girls in the Ladies Classic League.

She leaves to cherish her memory, a loving husband, John W. Schmitt; her beloved children, John C. Schmitt of Saybrook, IL, Melody Schmitt-Foreman (Keith) of Stuart, FL, and Jimmy Schmitt of Fort Wayne, IN; grandchildren, Brandi Sears (John) of Bloomington, IN, Ben Schmitt (Jennifer) of Pendleton, IN, Cole Foreman of Stuart, FL, Kayla Foreman of Stuart, FL, and Parker Schmitt of Fort Wayne, IN; great-grandchildren, James, Johnathan and Joschua Sears and Cooper Schmitt; a sister, Jeannette Brock; and an aunt, Sue Brockman.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Johnson and Lois (Stier) Brock, and two brothers, Phillip and Steve Johnson.

A visitation for Marilyn will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 pm. Marilyn will be laid to rest in the Catholic Cemetery following services.
