

MARTHA M. COX, 89, of Avilla, died on Monday, Nov. 10, 2014, at Presence Sacred Heart Home, Avilla, where she had resided for the last year. Born Sept. 28, 1925, in Fort Wayne, she was a daughter of the late Irven and Almeda "Dollie" Snyder Hobson. On Aug. 21, 1948, in Fort Wayne, she married Curtis T. Cox; he survives in Avilla. Martha was primarily a homemaker but did work as a teachers' assistant for Fort Wayne Community Schools. She and her husband moved to the Avilla area in 1978 coming from Fort Wayne. They were members of Calvary United Methodist Church, in Avilla, where she was very active. She also enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. In their formative years, she and her husband enjoyed traveling with their camper. Also surviving are her children, Gary (Vicky) Cox of White Bear, Minn., Sharon (Timothy) Abts of Springville, Ind., Russell Cox of Avilla, and Gregory (Kathleen) Cox of Knoxville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Paul Bennett, Marjorie Ponderosa, Clarence Greider, and Doris Hobson. Funeral service is 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla Chapel. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014, at the funeral home. Burial will be private at Greenlawn Cemetery, Fort Wayne. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Calvary United Methodist Church, Avilla.
