Martha "Marti" Olivia Murphy

Marti was born August 20, 1940 in Merry Hill, NC to the late James Ruffin and Lou Ella Byrum. She moved with her family to Fort Wayne in the 60’s. She was a member of Waynedale Baptist Church, and even when she could no longer get to services physically, her love of Jesus never waned. She kept her Bible near and talked often of God’s love for us. Known to many as the crazy chicken lady, she loved and collected chicken figurines for years. She was fun loving and sassy, loved cooking shows, scary movies and rock and roll music, but above all, she loved her family and was an amazing mom, grandma, and great-grandma.

She is survived by her children, Greg (Laurie) Murphy, Michael (Glinda) Murphy, and Sheila (David) Mays, sister-in-law Juanita Byrum, and her cherished cousin Clara Belingia, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her parents, beloved little brother James (Junior) Byrum, sister Margie Webb, and many other loved ones whom we know she is with again in Heaven.

Services will take place at Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals in Waynedale (6810 Old Trail Road). Visitation will take place Friday, November 28th from 4-6 p.m. and Saturday, November 29th at 11 a.m. with funeral service at noon.
