

Marvel Ruthell Munro, 96, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025. Marvel was born on April 21, 1929, in Farmer, Ohio, a daughter of the late Donald F. and Leah L. (Dietsch) Ruth. Marvel graduated from Farmer High School in 1947 and graduated from Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, in 1951, where she worked full-time in the kitchens in exchange for room and board while earning her Bachelor's degree. She later went on to earn her Master's in Education from IU in 1997. She married Donald E. (Gene) Munro on December 27, 1952. Marvel was a teacher in Fort Wayne for 42 years, primarily with Fort Wayne Community Schools in the Adult Education department. She was very passionate about helping people obtain their GEDs.
Marvel spent her life actively engaged in a number of community organizations and nonprofits. She worked with the Fort Wayne Literacy Alliance, the Fort Wayne Women's Bureau, and Turnstone Center, participating in tutoring and other services for disabled adults. She was also actively involved for many years with the Allen County Extension Homemakers Club, Allen County 4H, Fort Wayne Settlers, and the Fort Wayne Parks Department.
Marvel was a member of the Fort Wayne Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #432 for over 50 years. She was also a lifetime 50-year member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW), serving as Fort Wayne's chapter president and woman of the year, and the Fort Wayne Teachers Association. She was also a charter member of North Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and an active member in choir, teaching and women's group until its closure. Marvel enjoyed time spent with her bridge and domino groups, reading mystery novels, and all kinds of needlework and crafts. Most of all, she loved spending time with her large family.
Marvel is survived by her five children, Rebecca (Kevin) Stone, Michael (Elizabeth) Munro, Brent (Jane) Munro, Gary (Sharon) Munro, and Kevin (Robin) Munro; her grandchildren, Matthew A. (Johnna) Stone, Jeffrey A. (Jacqueline) Stone, Scott C. (Holly) Munro, Ryan J. (Katie) Munro, Tamara (Conor) Sprick, Gary D. (Lauren) Munro, Daniel R. (Robin) Munro, Sarah R. (Tianna) Munro, Kevin T. (Stephanie) Munro, Laura-Ann M. (Sam) Stahlhut, Melissa S. (Eric) Patterson, Nicholas W. (Tiffany) Munro, Elizabeth deWees, and Stephanie D. (Nick) Merrill; and 30 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Eugene Munro; her parents, Donald F. and Leah L. (Dietsch) Ruth; her siblings, Carmen H. Ruth and Janet L. Ruth; and one grandson, Christopher deWees.
Funeral service will occur Friday, September 26, 2025, at 12:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. A visitation will also be held Thursday, September 25, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Home - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue. Burial will follow on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Covington Memorial Gardens, 8408 Covington Rd, Fort Wayne, IN 46804.
