Mary Christine (Sullivan) Rawlins departed this life on February 13, 2018, at her home with her children by her side. Having lived an exemplary life of selflessness, she was called home to the Lord.

She was born June 20, 1955, in Presque Isle, Maine. Mary was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish (FW), graduate of Bishop Luers High School (Class of 1973) and held a degree in Elementary Education from Indiana University. On October 18, 1980, she married the love of her life, Glen Rawlins. He preceded her in passing.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, where she also worked as a teacher’s aide. Mary was a friend to many and devoutly dedicated to her family. Mary loved gardening, reading, listening to music, the ocean and taking walks through Southwood Park.

She spent every weekend with her sisters, Eileen and Joan, grabbing coffee and breakfast and heading out for an afternoon of shopping. Mary was a proud mother and grandmother and will be sorely missed.

Surviving are her children, Patrick Rawlins, Bridget (Jason) Jacoby, Brendan Rawlins, Deirdre (Brian) Goshert, Neil Rawlins, grandsons William and Eddie Goshert (and a granddaughter on the way). Brothers and sisters, Fr. William Sullivan, Eileen (Myron) Brodmerkel, James Sullivan, Joan (Daniel) Bourbonnais, and seven nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Glen Rawlins, parents James and Eileen Sullivan, and niece Alana Bourbonnais.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be Monday, February 19, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church, 4500 Fairfield Avenue, with visitation 1 hour prior. Visitation also from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018, with a vigil service at 5:45 p.m. at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, 6424 Winchester Road. So sad to hear of Mary's passing. Her many Sullivan cousins, here in 1964/65, will miss her.

Although it has been decades since I last saw any of my Ft. Wayne cousins, the family bond remains strong. My sincere condolences to Mary's children, siblings and friends who all cherished her presence in their lives.

We are so saddened that the Rawlins children have lost both Mary and Glen, both gone before their times. Really fine people.

Mary was my best friend for all of my grade school days and she remained my friend all my life. I am privileged to have grown up with Mary. I know she helped form the person I am today. Thank God for that because Mary was determined and hardworking, she had a spirit of adventure (yes, she did!), and above all, Mary was all heart. The photos on this website show a beautiful woman with a life full of joy, surrounded by the family she loved. My heart goes out to her sisters and brothers, children and grandchildren.

Mare was my BFF since grade school. I have many fond memories, but my favorite is of our camping trips and related shenanigans to Petoskey, Michigan. Mary was a lover of music from all genres:Jesse Colin Young and Fleetwood Mac, to Marvin Gaye. Blues, in particular. How many, many hours were spent gathering as much change as possible (gas was 29 cents a gallon) to go bombing around in her red Beetle, and later my Camero, listening to music. And Mary gassing us out with her Bluegrass perfume to cover the scent of cigarettes.... Although miles apart, we touched base ALWAYS at Christmas, and I made sure to visit with here when I went back home. I am ever grateful for our visit a couple of years ago and our last conversation this past Christmas. I know that Mare is happy to be home in heaven with Glen, the love of her life. I miss you already, Mare. Godspeed. May light perpetual shine upon you.

I was so fortunate to know Mary through Fort Wayne Community Schools where she frequently subbed for me as a teacher of students with special needs. She was always upbeat and so engaging/supportive and loving toward all the students. Her big, beautiful heart will continue to beat on with our Heavenly Father, as she left a wonderful legacy to all she met. My prayers are with all the family, that the memories they created with Mary will bring smiles to their hearts through this difficult time.
