Born July 22, 1938, in Irvine, Kentucky to Richard and Lucille (Richey) Marquis, she was proud of her nursing career, having graduated from Parkview Methodist Nursing School in 1959.
One of her favorite memories was how she met her husband, Bob Salay, while they both worked at Parkview. They married on August 21, 1960, and remained happily married for 64 years until her death.
An active member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for many years, Mary was a faithful Christian, a diligent crocheter, and an avid card player. She had a sharp sense of humor and a deep love for her family.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John Marquis of Holland, Michigan and David Marquis of Van Wert, Ohio, as well as three great-grandchildren.
She is dearly missed by her beloved husband, Bob, children, Deb Salay and Jeff (DeeDee) Salay all of Fort Wayne, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
A visitation for Mary will be held Thursday, November 7, 2024 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park, 1140 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805, followed by a funeral service at 1:30 pm.
