Mary Louise Thiel, 84, of Garrett, IN died May 21, 2024. Mary was born in Fort Wayne to the late Frank Kahn and Verla Kahn (Wayer). She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Fort Wayne, an award-winning artist, and a Junior Achievement and art class teacher. She felt that everyone had artistic ability in them that they just needed to discover. She appreciated life among the trees and wildflowers that surrounded the house that her and her husband, the late Dan Thiel, built together. Her favorite song was "Imagine" by John Lennon.
Mary is survived by her son, Dan Jr. (Karen) Thiel, daughter Denise (Mark) Cleveland; grandchildren, Courtney (Dameon) Rinehold, Whitney (Paul) Cleveland, Derek (Katelyn) Thiel, and Wade (Emily) Thiel; great-grandchildren, Corbin Rinehold, Chloe Rinehold, Conrad Thiel, Lennon Thiel; and her siblings, Deborah (Carl) Mosher, Frank (Bonnie) Kahn, James (Robin) Kahn, Judy (Dave) Malinowski, Patricia Fosnaugh, Christine (Steve) Bacon, Ilene (Steve) Pence, Katherine (Larry) Christman.
Mary was preceded in death by siblings Frances (Richard) Dunno, Nancy (Tom) Badders, Robert (Mary) Kahn.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to ACRES Land Trust, PO Box 665, Huntertown, IN 467 48. A celebration of life service will be announced at a later time.
