MAVIS BURKS, 59, of Fort Wayne, died Friday, June 29, 2012, at St. Joseph Hospital. Born in Guin, Ala., she was the daughter of the late Edward R. Smith and Mary M. Webb. She was married to the late J.D. Burks. Surviving are her sons, Kenny D. Smith and Edward J. Smith; brothers, Jimmy L. Smith, John J. Smith, Steve A. Smith and Edward L. Smith; sisters, Mary McCave and Luetta J. Wimes; grandaughter, Kelsey A. Sheets. She is preceded in death by brothers, Robert James Smith and Billy Joe Smith. Funeral Service is 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at C.M. Sloan & Sons, 1327 N. Wells St., with calling two hours prior. Burial at Lindenwood Cemetary.
