Melbourne Clerkley Carroll, 75, better known to many as "Butch" passed away peacefully at home on September 12, 2026 in Fort Wayne, IN surrounded by, Em Mett and her 2 sons, James and Ronald Cloyd as his (caregiver) at the time of his departure. He was born December 9, 1950 to the late Melbourne and Hortense Ruby (Bryant) Carroll of Flint, MI. Melbourne accepted Christ into his life at a later age, he was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Fort Wayne, IN. He will be remembered as a man that was very reserved. He loved his family, friends and his employment at D&W Fine Pack in Fort Wayne. He accepted his calling as a deacon and was ordained by Rev. Fred Morris, pastor of Antioch Baptist Church. Whatever his hand findeth to do, he did it with his might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thy goest- Ecclesiastes 9:10. Melbourne leaves this memory to all; Let the life I lived, speak for me, let the service I gave speak for me, for when I'm resting in my grave, there's nothing more that can be said, so let the life I lived, speak for me.
Melbourne met Em Mett, July of 1988 and they were married October 23, 1989, they divorced and remarried and finally became the best of friends in love until his departure. Melbourne loved eating good food prepared by Em Mett. He enjoyed the comfort of his home by watching tv, playing chess, poker, and traveling. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved being called by his nickname, Butch,. valued the REALNESS from others as he gave of himself. He is survived by, Em Mett Carroll-Cloyd; step-sons, James and Ronald Cloyd; sons, Donyale Carroll and Priest (Andrea) Carroll of Michigan; grandchildren, Preanna Carroll, Satoria Ward, Shawn Carroll Jr, and Olivia Carroll, Rotika Holiday; several great-grandchildren; sister, Janet (Billy) Marshall; and previous wife, Linda (Richard) Carroll- Conliffe. Butch was also preceded in death by his son, Shawn Carroll; brother, Tommy Carroll; and sister, Brenda Carroll. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2026 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation- Mungovan, 2114 South Calhoun Street Fort Wayne, Indiana 46802, with visitation one hour prior.
