Obituary of Melodie Arens Thomas-Oden
Melodie Arens Thomas-Oden was born December 3, 1959 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was a daughter of Clarence R. Thomas and Mary Francis (Lagrone) Thomas. She departed this earthly life on Friday, July 5, 2024, after health issues. Melodie, known as “Dee” by many, was a 1978 graduate of Northrup High School. She accepted Christ as her Lord and Saviour and was baptized at Come As You Are Community Church under the leadership of Teacher Anthony Payton. She would later start attending Changing Lives Outreach Ministries with her sister, Linda, and would later join under the leadership of Pastor Virgil Griffin Jr. and Co-Pastor Glenda Griffin. She was a devoted and faithful member participating in the Marriage Ministry and Hospitality Committee. Upon the ending of Changing Lives Outreach Ministries and the beginning of Redemption Church, with Dr. Kalhi Griffin, Pastor, Melodie continued her membership. She also enjoyed worshipping with the Oakridge Temple Church of God in Christ family with Rev. Elisha Harris Jr. as Pastor. Dee was also a devoted participant of the Just Us Girls, an annual women’s ministry weekend getaway of fellowship, praise, worship, relaxation and fun. She provided a beautiful smile to all attendees throughout the conference no matter what her duty was at the time. She was always willing to help. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, shopping, doing hair and playing BINGO. Melodie worked as a home health aide for many years, assisting in the care for many. However, her health issues compounded and limited her activities. She was preceded in death by her father, Clarence R. Thomas and a niece, Twilah Thomas. Melodie leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Roosevelt Oden; daughter, Tamika Thomas (Myeisha); mother, Mary F. Thomas; granddaughters, Nykeeria Thomas, Jaliyah Wade and Brooklyn Wade; grandson, Derrion Reed; sisters, Mary L. (Matthew Sr.) Govan, Linda Thomas-Carlisle (James Lamb); brothers, Clarence R. “Bay-Bay” (Angelica) Thomas and Charles Thomas along with a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
