Obituary of Melvin Raymond Schwartz
Melvin Raymond Schwartz, 95, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at Coventry Meadows. Melvin was born August 24, 1922 in Fort Wayne to the late David and Louise (Bleich) Schwartz. He served in the U. S. Navy during WWII. Melvin was a former member at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church, a current member at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, and was a member of the Southside Optimist Club. He retired from Fairfield Supply Company in 1987 after 16 years and had previously worked for J. C. O'Connor and Sons for 23 years. Surviving are his children, Cynthia (Mark) Johnson of Costa Mesa, CA, Diane (James) Witzenman of Fort Wayne, Craig (Marlene) Schwartz of Ellettsville, IN, and Gary (Kathleen) Schwartz of Indianapolis; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; sister, Marcella Sheets of Fort Wayne; step children, David (Terri Phipps) Schieferstein of Richmond, VA, Rick Schieferstein of Port St. Lucie, FL, and Karen (Guy) Smith of Eighty Four, PA; three step grandchildren; and four great step grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Marjory L. Schwartz; 2nd wife, Catherine C. Schwartz; and granddaughter, Katie Schwartz. Funeral service will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 917 West Jefferson Blvd., Fort Wayne, IN 46802 with visitation 2 hours prior. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery Gardens. Preferred memorials may be made to Mount Calvary Lutheran Church or Emmanuel Lutheran Church.
