Merlyn Luther Bloom

Merlyn Luther Bloom, 86, passed away January 11, 2024 in Fort Wayne, IN. He was born June 7, 1937 in Fremont, Ohio, the son of Luther C. and Edna E. (Bruntz) Bloom. He graduated from Salem-Oak High School in Ottawa Co. Ohio and earned his Associates from Indiana Tech. Merlyn proudly served his country in the U.S. Army as a Security Agent SP5 from 1955-1958. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Merlyn was an avid Purdue basketball fan and enjoyed playing the trumpet. He was an Electronic Engineer with GTE/Verizon for 25 years and retired in 1997.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Jean Bloom of Fort Wayne, IN; daughters, Deborah R. (Gregory) Bates of Fort Wayne, IN; Cynthia (Christopher) Jordan of Rockville, MD; grandchildren, Christina (Patrick) Surine, Lauren (Eric) Richeson, Dianna Jordan, Dominick Jordan, 8 great grandchildren and the family dog Gidget.
Funeral service will be 11:00 am Thursday, January 18, 2024, at St. Peter’s Lutheran 7710 E. State Blvd. Fort Wayne, IN. with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 4-7 pm Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at D.O. McComb and Sons Maplewood Park Funeral Home 4017 Maplecrest Road Fort Wayne, IN.
